Learning to grow. Learning to serve. Learning to live. Learning for life. For more than 143,800 Arkansas youth, 4-H is a path filled with fun, new skills, accomplishments and lifelong friendships that flows into a confident future - all backed by research and directed by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

The mission of 4-H is to provide meaningful opportunities for youth and adults to work together to create sustainable community change.

This is accomplished within three primary content areas, or mission mandates, -

  • citizenship,
  • healthy living,
  • science

The educational foundation of 4-H lies in these three mission mandates. These mandates reiterate the founding purposes of Extension -

  • community leadership,
  • quality of life,
  • technology transfer

- in the context of 21st century challenges and opportunities.

Each program has multiple project areas which you can see by clicking here.

Camp Fit and Fun

The goal of Camp Fit and Fun is to make participants aware of their own exercise and nutrition habits, provide education for healthier lifestyle choices, and help participants set goals for better nutrition and exercise. Various activities will be utilized at the three-day camp showing participants healthy lifestyles can be easy and fun. Teen Leaders help lead educational activities. They help influence healthy behaviors among campers. The campers are involved in hands on learning experiences as they "learn by doing". Swimming, canoeing, healthy nutrition, and wall climbing are just a few of the activities youth will experience while at camp.

4-H O'Rama

The 4-H O'Rama program, open to Cloverbud, Junior and Senior 4-H members of Garland County, provides opportunities for 4-H members to exhibit skills developed in their projects. Educational workshops and activites as well as adult volunteer leaders and mentors, foster the learning process for their projects throughout the year. Competitive and non-competitive activites help 4-H'ers to acquire life skills and allow them to increase knowledge as they prepare for their events. At the state level, participants experience campus life, develop personal relationships, learn to make informed choices and are recognized in front of peers. The outcome of the O'Rama experience is that participants will confidently speak in front of a group, exhibit improved leadership skills, and continue to pursue education after high school.
